Slavery, Tokenism and the Atheist PR Debacle

Love your work Christian. Perhaps you're concerned as I am over how Progressives and "the Left" in general have unwittingly helped enable "the Right" to monopolize the political playing field through its strategic abuse of sociopathy and religion. Also the Left's reliance on outdated and ineffective political approaches grounded in "secular liberal political theory."



Though noble in the abstract, these approaches have proved incapable of either stopping the right-ward drift of the media and the country or of creating a sustainable progressive movement capable of enabling Democrats to enact a realistically progressive agenda. If anything, they've led us down the myopic road of a type of "secular fundamentalism" that has not grasped the fact that right-wing religious, political, and economic extremists have merged and integrated their agendas, but has rather chosen to downplay the importance of religion to the peril of the movement.

What's Wrong With Evangelism and How We Can Save It?

Thanks for posting your article on this important subject. I'm Jesuit-trained Catholic, and at no time in my life have I been more concerned regarding the hijacking and perversion of evangelism and Christianity by the "religious right."



Without exaggeration, the type of right-wing religious fundamentalism and extremism that has become front and center in America is the same type that the mass-murdering Norway Shooter, Anders Breivik, looked to for his inspiration. And people like Rick Santorum are helping spur on the right-wing "religious war" being waged to impose their Sharia-esque Sovereignty over our society.



I'm also appalled by how Republicans are cloaking themselves in the "borrowed robes" of this Sharia-esque religious extremism and its presumed "moral- authority/superiority" to mask their/its white-s/prmacy, as well as shared agenda of privatizing the public sphere (e.g., public schools, prisons, social security, medicare, etc.) and foisting "full spectrum dominion" on both our minds and bodies (including bodily fluids, contraceptive, health, and partnership choices, zygotes, embryos, etc.).
