Rick Sanchez Skewers Cable News Industry

I think it’s sad that almost NONE of the news coverage cited that Sanchez was responding to the outrageous suggestion by the media interviewer that Jewish Americans are an oppressed racial minority like Latinos. If that were true, then Latinos (and Blacks) would at least be at parity with Jewish people in their representation, both behind the camera and in decision-making positions in the media. That’s why those refusing to seriously diversify their employee and managerial ranks are the ones who should be fired.

If we had Blacks & Latinos in meaningful numbers as producers, interviewers, reporters, on-air personalities, editors, executives, etc. throughout the media, we wouldn’t be having to endure media platforms being given to people who make racist inferences about the Obamas, Blacks, Latinos, our Nation’s history, etc. day in and day out, and who are allowed to spew their garbage and infect the subconscious of a broad swath of White Americans. This has Helped undermine Obama’s presidency, empowered the Tea Party/GOP, and pulled the country further to the right. Yet, Sanchez gets fired. What about Pat Buchanon? Just look at the staffs of Jon Stewart and Colbert. Almost ALL White. Lawrence O’Donnell brought out his staff yesterday to applaud Gov. Christie. I saw NO Blacks among the 14.

Hey Media: it’s time to break up your ethnocentrically monolithic culture and employment practices. TRULY diversify your ranks and perspectives. Then maybe we'd stand a chance in contesting right-wing religious and political fanaticism and racism.

They finally did post my comment. Check it out. As of now, it's on page 3 of the comment thread.

Please, somebody, tell me why what I said was so "out of line" that it took my asking for what happened and many hours for somebody to finally approve it?

Rick Perry's 'Texas Miracle' Includes Crowded Homeless Shelters, Low-Wage Jobs, Worker Deaths

I recall a previous "Texas Miracle" that turned out to be a hoax and eventual scandal. But before it got exposed, Rod Paige, who was at the helm when it happened, got appointed by George W. Bush to be his Secretary of Education. The "miracle" involved the unbelievable drop in the drop out rate and increase in achievement in the Texas public schools. Turned out it really was unbelievable because they cooked the books.

You see, they're pretty good at tellin' some pretty big whoppers down there in the Lone Star State. Let's not forget how great a firm Enron was, until it turned out to be built on a mountain of lies- and then when Enron got found out, W. denied knowing "Kenny Boy" Lay, Enron's CEO and Chair, as well as W's biggest political contributor.

Yeah, I'd say it's just a matter of time before the real truth gets out behind Perry's "Texas Miracle." Hopefully before, like W., he lands in the White House.

Oh, and here's a little quiz on Texas History that still's mighty relevant even now:

Q: Why did Texas become a Republic?

A: To maintain slavery.

Sanchez got fired because of what he was accused of implying when he answered an outrageous suggestion by an interviewer that Jewish Americans are an oppressed racial minority group just like Hispanics. Funny how that never gets mentioned. Even funnier is that Pat Buchanan, who just slyly referred to President Obama as "boy," and "coonskin" faces no consequence, and people who daily make outrageous racist inferences about Obama, African Americans, Black history, Latinos, etc. are continuously given a media platform and airtime with which to spew their garbage.

If one can't understand why such double standards outrage people of color and others who are fair minded, then I guess this status quo suits you just fine.

Here's a couple of good recent articles about Buchanan:

The Religious Reasons Why Abortion is a Moral Decision

Great post Rev. I'm grateful for progressives who maintain their religious affiliation or that part of their identity influenced by the best of what religion and spirituality offer. Too many progressives are turned off by the hypocrisy and power hungry greed of religious institutions, leaders, politicians, family members, and those in the society claiming some religious authority or belief system as a moral justification for their greed. And there's nothing more greedy than to covet the control of the fetus and fluids in another's body, their partnership or reproductive choices.

To them I say take responsibility for yourself. Stop using fetuses as weapons to wage "holy war" against people who don't share your belief. "Vengeance shall be mine says the Lord." So if you truly had faith in God and believed someone has committed a wrong by what they themselves chose to do with their own fertilized egg growing in their own body, then you'd have faith they'd face the consequences of their choice on their own judgment day - not the one you falsely impose upon them because of your lack of faith in God's judgment and your choice to violate the 1st Commandment: "You shall have no other God before me." You've placed yourself, your judgement, and lust for the power to punish and control others ahead of God and in God's place. So remove the beam from your own eye and ask God for forgiveness for your apostasy and hubris.

Why Has Obama Never Recognized the Tea Party?

Great synopsis. F & F. You've hit the nail on the head. We'll never be able to advance a progressive agenda in this country if we have to not only fight overwhelming right-wing forces poised against us, now more than ever, AND fight a rear guard action by those ostensibly on our own side. The stereotype that Obama has a questionable character and can't lead, is just that - a stereotype. And it ain't true.

Why Has Obama Never Recognized the Tea Party?

May I also recommend my most recent article, which I believe DOES give a realistic account of the Tea Party called for by the author, while I also call upon progressives and the Left to reflect on their own complicity in allowing right-wing religious and political extremists to dominate the social and political playing field - "CRUSADER CHRISTIANITY, TEA PARTY CULT, & THE LEFT."
