Juan Williams: Defund NPR

Dear Brother Juan,

I know you found working for NPR uncomfortable since you were one of the only African American men of any stature to ever be hired by them. I know you believed that as a leader of the so-called "liberal biased" media, NPR should have been at the forefront of having more Black men as analysts, hosts, reporters, executive managers, etc. You saw this as very hypocritical of them, and you also saw them as basically taking you for granted as their "token Black guy." In other words, you saw NPR as a "liberal media plantation," so you took liberties to feather your nest over at Fox and rumple their feathers to boot.

But why HAVEN"T you made the issue of NPR's employment record regarding African Americans an issue now? Why not make THAT case while at the same time making the case that NPR should keep its funding while it also commits to increasing its employment of Black men? At least NPR is more likely to cover stories regarding African Americans in a way that is less prejudiced than the mainstream media, like Fox.

Well, it looks like you've given up being an advocate for African Americans as you once were and actually prefer being the "only one." Have you came down with a case of "Fox Fact-free Fever" because their "token pay" is higher and they treat you like a "house slave" rather than the "field slave" you felt at NPR?

Rush Limbaugh Denies He Was Mocking Japanese Refugees (AUDIO)

F&F. I'm sure you've noticed some of the less "well spoken" of their lot around these here parts in the past. My guess is that now that AOL is here, Roves' bringing in the PR types rather than the late night "meth heads" to project their "full spectrum dominance" here.

Desperately Seeking Their Own Rove: Democrats Try Catching GOP In Outside Money Chase

F & F. Great point. Reminds me of one of Rove's hero's, Ayn Rand, who admired the "genius" of a contemporary of hers - a man named William Edward Hickman, who famously stated, "What is good for me is right." This is what she said about Hickman and his quote, "The best and strongest expression of a real man's psychology I have ever heard." The only problem is this. Hickman gained his notoriety as America's most infamous serial killer in the 1920s. http://michaelprescott.typepad.com/michael_prescotts_blog/2005/05/ayn_rands_real_.html

So now you can see the lineage that the right-wing looks to for their inspiration and why their adopted motto is, "What is good for us is right," no matter how immoral, unethical, or indeed, murderous in its outcomes.

What Does Michele Bachmann's Grasp Of History Mean For The Children?

Great points papapj. You may have heard about the Gallup poll taken in 1962 that showed that 85% of Whites, NATIONALLY, believed that Blacks had an equal chance as Whites in getting a good education! Now that's some serious perceptual dissonance. Imagine the level of self-deception needed to sustain such a delusion in the face of incredible evidence to the contrary. Alternatively, imagine the level of disconnection from and/or dismissiveness towards Black people who had been quite visibly and vocally asserting otherwise.

Now imagine the cognitive dissonance of White people being confronted by both the evidence and the first hand assertions of Black people suffering from the inequality, yet overwhelmingly resolving the dissonance by maintaining a belief that their perspective concerning the plight of Blacks is the unbiased one, and that Blacks are the ones playing the race card, exaggerating their difficulties, and failing to take responsibility for their own self-induced failures. Now imagine the kind of ideology such people might gravitate towards when it comes to voting or supporting any person or policy that they have been led to believe might in some way take "their hard earned tax dollars" and divert it to programs (other than prisons) that might benefit Blacks and/or suggest that anything other than Blacks themselves are responsible for their problems.

Now imagine the faces and emotions of such people when they have been led to believe by Bachmann that "Obamacare" is a communist conspiracy to give reparations to Blacks.

Glenn Beck: Japan Earthquake Might Be A 'Message' From God (AUDIO)

I just pray that future generations will not look back upon our fate through the lens of the "The New Beck Bible" (soon to be promoted on his show). I've just read a preview of his revised "Book of Genesis," and this little tidbit caught my attention: "From dust you came and to radioactive dust shall you return." (I know it's dark humor, but it's my way of dealing with the enormity of the crisis).

Desperately Seeking Their Own Rove: Democrats Try Catching GOP In Outside Money Chase

In the view of many, Rove has proven himself to be a political predator/sociopath without conscience, remorse, or peer who has helped make it an acceptable norm for the right-wing to say/do anything and stop at nothing to control everything.

His name is synonymous with such behavior. The Dems are trying to stop a complete Rovian take over of the Government, not emulate his behavior.

I'm sorry but I feel compelled to question the caption that the Dems are seeking "their own Rove."

Please, do not make a false equivalence by making Rove the "gold standard" by which to analyze Democratic strategy. It subconsciously normalizes political sociopathy in the public's mind.

And that's the last thing our children need to be exposed to if we want them to grow up as healthy human beings in a diverse society.

Many thanks.

What Does Michele Bachmann's Grasp Of History Mean For The Children?

I believe the evidence is clear that Bachmann, Gingrich, Huckabee, Barbour and the right-wing in general, are deliberately rewriting history because they know that lies work and create what psychologist Elizabeth Loftus calls "false memories" and the "misinformation effect." Subsequent corrections of their falsehoods do not undo the damage as research clearly shows: https://we bfiles.uci .edu:443/e loftus/Mis infoCurren tDirection s92.pdf

That's why Haley Barbour rewrote both his personal and Mississippi's history around the role of the White Citizens Councils in segregation and preventing Blacks from voting. It's why the Republican/Tea Party edited out all references to slavery when they read the Constitution in Congress recently in their attempt to sanitize our country's true history. They paint themselves and their clan as patriotic and attack those who don't buy their lies as "hating America."

This type of deliberate deception is indicative of sociopathic behavior and has nothing in common with mentally healthy norms of democratic discourse:

Here's my question regarding all those Republican/Tea Party people like Bachmann, Wisconsin Governor Walker, and the rest of their ilk who rewrite history yet love to bemoan the effect of Government etc.on "our children:"

WHAT KIND OF EXAMPLE DO YOU THINK YOU SET FOR OUR CHILDREN WITH YOUR GUN TALK, LYING, POLITICALLY PREDATORY AND SOCIOPATHIC BEHAVIOR? ARE YOU DELIBERATELY TRYING TO CREATE MONSTERS?

Michele Bachmann Mangles Revolutionary History

Thanks Okiemama. You make a great point. It's not only absurd, it calls into question whether the high school they received their diploma from was actually accredited. Imagine making such false equivalences on a high school exit exam. Why they'd be lucky to pass the GED with such poor reasoning skills. I hope its not heritable or at least that God spares the children :)

p.s., Once I realized that the troll patrol's ideology has left them neurologically debilitated, I decided it not worth my energy to engage them. For those trollers who employ such ignorance deliberately, then obviously, like Bachmann, the best predictive models with which to understand their behavior conceptualize them as political predators and sociopaths, who by definition, are immune to appeals to reason and prey on those who are reasonable. Hence, another reason I ignore them.

Michele Bachmann: 'First Thing' I Would Do In Presidential Debate Is 'Offer Birth Certificate'

NO! The first thing you NEED to provide is official certification, signed by 5 randomly selected board certified, forensic psychiatrists that you are NOT a sociopath. Then we'll check your family's mental health history, which you also NEED to provide. If all of that checks out, feel free to post your birth certificate.

Michele Bachmann Mangles Revolutionary History

Bachmann is also notorious for deliberately creating false memories and narratives about the country's supposed perfection: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/social/hp_blogger_Ronald%20B.%20Robinson/anderson-cooper-bachmann-american-history_n_813695_75329328.html.

She and other right-wingers don't do this because they're dumb. They do it because they know it works. Elizabeth Loftus, a psychologist who's an expert in the "misinformation effect" and "false memories" describes the psychological and neural mechanisms that enable such misinformation and disinformation to work: https://webfiles.uci.edu:443/eloftus/MisinfoCurrentDirections92.pdf

It's why Mississippi Republican governor, Haley Barbour and others feel so comfortable in rewriting the history of segregation. Or why the Tea Party types like Bachmann and her Republican colleagues felt so free to edit out any references or allusions to slavery in their publicly broadcast reading of the Constitution on the floor of Congress a couple of months ago.

This type of deliberate deception is indicative of politically predatory and sociopathic behavior and has nothing in common with mentally healthy norms of democratic discourse:

Right-wing vitriol, Threats, & Political Mental Health

If we are to Thrive Together in the wake of the Arizona shootings, it is absolutely essential to combine the focus on mental illness with the focus on creating healthy norms of political discourse and behavior. That means recognizing that there can't be civility without sanity, and we need both right now. To have a truly equitable, just, and thriving democracy, we must create a more perfect, sane and civil Union. We deserve no less and can no longer tolerate any less.

Why Right-Wing Christians Claim Obama As "The Antichrist"

For those who like to make false comparisons, you might recall that there were some secular liberals who didn't even believe in an Antichrist but who nonetheless metaphorically used that term to describe George W. Bush. But let's be clear: many on the religious Right literally believe Obama to be the Antichrist, just as they literally believe in the Rapture and Armageddon and that scapegoating Obama is their path to both.
Rachel Maddow has been exposing how Fox news and populist authors with huge followings (like those behind the hugely successful, Left Behind book series and movie spinoff), have been exploiting this "antichrist" theme against Obama to great effect.

Must read this article on how Right-wing Christians defile the faith and our democracy through dangerous and extremist claims that Obama is "the Antichrist."

Chris Matthews Slams Huckabee's Racist Rants Against Obama

This is a must read. MSNBC's Hardball host, Chris Matthews gave the best and most concise analysis I have yet heard of Mike Huckabee's recent racist rants against the President. It's also perhaps the best commentary I have ever heard Chris Matthews give. This is a proud moment for MSNBC, and Chris and the network deserve to take a bow.
