Before he died, LEE ATWATER confessed that he was wrong to have deliberately promoted White racial resentment against African Americans as a political strategy to grow the Conservative movement and achieve Republicans' electoral success.
ATWATER also apologized, was remorseful, and asked that those who were inspired by him NOT follow what he had done politically, even though it made him a Conservative icon and was helpful to Republicans.
