Great article! As a Jesuit-trained Catholic myself it's clear to me that the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops are essentially the 1% Oligarchs of the Church. They've made common cause with their wealthiest Republican patrons and right-wing "prosperity gospel" preaching White, right-wing Protestant brethren.
They say Obama's adjustment still "violates Catholic religious beliefs." But the fact is that the right-wing putsch that resulted in their takeover of the Catholic Church is responsible for overturning key reforms of Pope John 23rd, which included fundamental "Catholic religious belief" in SUPPORT of contraception! These Conservative extremists purged reformers, and marginalized Catholic orders like my Jesuits and those members who followed the New Covenant teachings of Jesus Himself - NOT the Old Covenant of Leviticus and its champions like St. Paul.
