Why Has Obama Never Recognized the Tea Party?

I'd like to bring a different point of view - namely that I like many others voted for Obama for PRESIDENT - not MESSIAH. And like many other progressives, in particular African Americans, I had no illusions about the powers that have been out to de-legitimize and undermine his Presidency from before day one. No other President, save Lincoln, has had such strong, visceral, opposition to his Presidency. Black folks in this country have always realized that the right-wing powers of resistance constrain the power of any President or Party.

That's why there's always had to be a strong social movement backing up those in the government who were our allies. And that's where the Left, progressives, and people like the author, in my view, have failed miserably. They expect Obama by himself to take on a corporate-backed socio-religious movement and the media enabling it without the Left organizing to support Obama!

This article is reminiscent of the Tea Party, which questions Obama's character and ability to lead, while cuing stereotypes that exist beneath the conscious surface of most white Americans. It analyzies public comments made by the President as if they existed outside of the politicized and racialized reality we live in. In other words, it's synonymous with colorblind racism and white privilege
