P.S. After Michelle Obama clearly articulate
d her feelings about the racis.t-st
ereotype of the "angry black woman," which is the corollary of the "overly-em
otional Black man" stereotype
, HP user (who I have previously fanned) "sobaytran
splant" covertly used it against me. When you tell somebody to "RELAX," you have implicitly projected on them a state of "over-emot
ionality," while giving yourself "plausible deniabilit
y," because you have not explicitly called someone an "over-emot
ional," or "angry" Black man or woman. It's also a subtle way of inflicting emotional and mental distress in order to create a disincenti
ve for people like me to point out the racial undertones and implicatio
ns of a position or comment.
Just check out the tro// comments on the article about Michelle Obama talking about this stereotype and you will see how devious the commenters are - their argument is that if nobody uttered the explict words, "angry Black woman," then it's in Michelle Obama's (and other Black folks) paranoid mind, and she (they) just need to "relax." NO. YOU just need to stop the anonymous, implicit racial distress games in your efforts to stigmatize and punish us for exposing them.
