George Lucas: Hollywood Didn't Want To Fund 'Red Tails' Because Of Its Black Cast (VIDEO)

The unwillingness by Hollywood to invest money in a story that reflects the entire history of America through the experience of these brave Black men also reflects the ideology of Conservatives. They continue to be unwilling to invest any of the nation's wealth in addressing the enduring legacy of America's "original sin" - unless it's in prisons.

Had Lucas offered to make another movie about the Holocaust and the suffering of Jewish people in Europe, he would have had no problem raising the money. They are deemed far more "deserving" than Black folks. That's not being cynical or "anti-Jewish," but truthful.

What has happened in America to Black folks continues to be a taboo subject and continues to "take a back seat" to the stories of others in other countries. Black folks helped create this nation's wealth with centuries of unpaid labor and a century of underpaid segregated labor. Yet investing any of this wealth to address the enduring inequalities left in the wake of this injustice has been successfully turned into a taboo and stigmatized subject by Conservatives.

All praises due to Mr. Lucas for his personal and patriotic investment. May this story help turn the tide against the Conservative coded stereotyping and depictions of Black folks and Black men in particular as being "undeserving" of investment and trust.
