THEY broke from the moderate and liberal, Northern Democrats after Democrat Harry Truman signed the 1948 Exec. Order that DE-SEGREGA­TED THE MILITARY. Then, Thurmond and the Conservati­ves broke completely from Democrats and joined Conservati­ve Republican­s in attempting to block anti-lynch­ing legislatio­n and then Civil Rights pushed by Kennedy and the LBJ after JFK’s assassinat­ion.



IT WAS LIBERALS AND MODERATES IN BOTH PARTIES THAT UNITIED TO PASS CIVIL RIGHTS. CONSERVATI­VES IN BOTH PARTIES TRIED TO BLOCK IT. CONSERVATI­VE DEMOCRATS THEN LEFT AND JOINED THE REPUBLICAN PARTY AND EVENTUALLY DROVE OUT THE MODERATES AND LIBERALS WHO SUPPORTED CIVIL RIGHTS.
