Murdoch and Fox Portray Black Men as Terrorists on 24

Great insights SGM. As I've said above, I've watched the show many times (although I also said that "House" is my preferred show.) so I can sympathize about your sense of the deeper and dimensional aspects of the writing. They are quite seductive, even though as Brummie pointed about, still formulaic.

Your point about possible stereotypical portrayals of white men is a good one. I think a case could be made there. One that comes to mind that another commenter alluded to was Jack Bauer's seeming "white savior" archetypal role. There is a subtle difference, yet connection between "archetype" and "stereotype" which script writers are well versed in. So it's a common tool.

Our brain/mind recognizes "types" in both cases, and pleasure and pain emotion centers are stimulated in very deliberate ways by good writers. The show also seems to play the "plausible deniability" game when demonizing liberals and liberal political positions and attitudes. Have you noticed this at all? Any examples? (I gave one above about the War Crimes Act).

Yes, the African group possess many skills etc. Given the 350 year history on this continent, however, such portrayals do not counteract the implicit associations of negativity that have become the "water in which we swim."
