Too many people in our country see racial inequality as normal. They've never seen anything different so it appears natural, or taken for granted. They think that racism is merely an irrational act of individual prejudice. The Courts see and rule in that way too.
Far too many people confuse FORMAL, i.e., LEGAL racial equality with SUBSTANTIVE equality so they miss the type of subtleties that prevent us from achieving it. Liberals do it too unfortunately. White privilege and entitlement, as well as "colorblindness" and "post-racialism" are pervasive in this country. Both blind one to the myriad manifestations of racial inequality. Thank God there are both liberals and conservatives who are willing to learn.
But then again, an open mind is under assault and its becoming harder and harder for those who call themselves conservatives to openly demonstrate open mindedness lest conservatives like Limbaugh and the Republicans in Congress etc. mercilessly attack and punish them.
