I think that's part of the downside worth considering. The fear of that outcome and the motivation to avoid experiencing it in real life is a lot more powerful than the impact of the positive image of the 1st Pres Parker you described.
It's the positive imagery that provides the "plausible deniability" masking this negative downside.
